Cast Your Own Bond Villain

March 28, 2007 |  Filed under: Blog |

Had a dream last night about the next Bond film. Had a pretty cool intro. involving an exploding penny or something. Anyhoo, it got me thinking about whom I would like to see play a Bond villain. In no particular order…

Geoffrey Rush
Don Cheadle
Danny Huston
Ian McKellan
Michael Caine (how has this not happened yet?)
Jet Li (would have to bring back Michelle Yeoh to stand a fighting chance)
Tom Hanks (seriously)
Clive Owen
Samantha Morton (cos she can do anything)
Gary Oldman
Joan Allen

Your picks?

Going with something a little different: Alec Baldwin, Jackie Chan, Robert Forrester, Miranda Richardson, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Johnny Depp or Bill Nighy. Simon Pegg would be AWESOME as a bond villain.

    Great choice in Clive Owen!

  2. David Says:

    Kevin,
Dude! Billy Nighy with Simon Pegg as his weird-ass albino henchman. That would be rock.

  3. Dr. Wife Says:

Sam Rockwell / Gary Oldman (virtually interchangeable)
    Pete Postlethwaite
    Keifer Sutherland
    Will Arnett
    Tim Robbins
    Anthony Hopkins
    Vince Vaughn
    Julianne Moore

  4. M-D Says:

Hm. I guess Alan Rickman would be too obvious of a choice. I’d put Avery Brooks out there, except that he already WAS something of an old-skool Bond villain on a DS9 episode (”Dr. Bashir, I Presume…”, if memory serves) - but I’d put Colm Meany on the list just because he can be pretty badass when he wants to be. Also, Hugh Laurie and Anthony Head.

(It’s too bad EON wasted Christopher Walken on “A View to a Kill”, because…come on.)

Dr. Wife - I’ll give you Vince Vaughn, but…Will Arnett? Really?

  5. David Says:

Colm Meany like a Mofo! He would totally kick Daniel Craig’s ass. It would be a “Layer Cake” reunion.

    M-D:
My theory is that a scary guy (Anthony Hopkins) can be scary. But a funny guy (Vince Vaughn, WIll Arnett) can be VERY scary, because it’s so incongruent. Plus, Will Arnett has a very austere kinda face, I think if he tried to creep you out he has the looks to do a damn good job of it. I won’t hold my breath for the casting, though.

  7. M-D Says:

Maybe it’s just that I so closely associate him with GOB on “Arrested Development”, and haven’t seen him in anything else nearly as memorable (yes, I’m discounting “Let’s Go To Prison”).

But I’m totally with you on Vince Vaughn.

I love the idea of Will Arnett as a Bond villain. My little bro thought he looked totally evil when he saw Blades of Glory.
