The Answer to “A”

The highest-grossing film of all time starting with the letter “A” is…
Aladdin
Aladdin made $217,350,219 domestic. The second place film made a mere $23,245 less.
Alvin and the Chipmunks
I, too, am disturbed by this revelation, and am only comforted by the fact that in adjusted dollars Aladdin blows it out of the water.
(My friend Amber, by the way, is the one person to answer this correctly. She chimed in on Facebook)
Third place depends upon who persnickety you are about titles. Technically speaking, the title of the third Austin Powers film is Austin Powers in Goldmember, and it made $213,117,789. If, however, you like to think of that movie as Goldmember (and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, which comes in fourth, as The Spy Who Shagged Me), then Armageddon, which many of you guessed, comes in third with $201,578,182.
Yup, Alvin and the Chipmunks made more money than Armageddon.
By the way, those of you who guessed American Pie forgot (as I did) that American Pie 2 actually made more money than its predecessor, and would have been the better guess ($145,096,820, for those of you keeping score).
